    About Us

Valley Alternative School (VAS) primarily serves students who are at risk .  We are comprised of three schools: Valley Continuation High School provides opportunities for credit recovery and original credit through direct instruction, independent studies and blended learning (online); Puente Hills High School, provides instruction through Independent Study, and Community Day School, servicing students who are expelled from the district, have a high truancy rate, or referred by Student & Family Services. Our challenge is to develop goals related to achievement of grade level standards while meeting the specific needs (academically and/or behaviorally) of all our students. VAS ensures that our curriculum meets the grade level expectations as outlined in the California Standards. VAS incorporates a variety of instructional strategies that enable us to meet the needs of all our students as it relates to credit recovery as well as acquiring original credit.  Our overarching goal is to develop the 21st century skills that will enable VAS students to achieve their post-secondary personal and academic goals necessary to enter the workforce and/or college setting with confidence and success.
